Similar Situations

My interest in photography was originally sparked by my tendency to observe beauty in things that aren’t always considered beautiful. This idea of finding beauty in unusual places led me to start shooting abandoned buildings and houses in the Rochester area. The idea of people just up and leaving these places has always been fascinating to me. In this series, my main goal is to incorporate a sense of presence in these places that have been unoccupied for years. Sometimes the presence is subtle, but I want the viewer to get a sense of something left behind or even the feeling that someone is still living in these places. I attempt to simulate a type of familiar-ness in these places that most of us are completely unfamiliar with. It is in this idea that I started with this series called “Similar Situations”
